Ironically, what this mostly did is bring attention to your substack. I had never heard of this and now I will follow it so good job to Jethro or Cleetus or whatever boot licker that did this. It's nice to have an Alton news source that isn't corpo-fascist or just a mouthpiece for John Simmons.

I've served my time at Telegraph and Riverbender and I have mad respect for Chase who does business profiles now for Telegraph, the Riverbender gang, and Doug Jenkins from the Big Z. However, those businesses are not aimed where I am. I appreciate the follow.

Ha, it's less diplomacy and more honesty. I do this for the love of the game and community. I do want paid subscribers and would definitely love to do this for a living, but I will never be beholden to anyone outside our team of like-minded folks.

I know it’s not the true focus of your post, but since you mentioned it, I do think Alton is truly in an illiteracy crisis that no one is talking about.

Ha sure, definitely a problem that expands beyond our little city, but I don’t think many people realize or talk about the fact that Alton is underperforming academically. Lots of chatter about districts on the other side of the river, but I don’t ever hear anything about education in Alton. As a resident, I’m concerned.

A better educated population might make better decisions (or at least spell their graffiti correctly).
