Charges filed in 3rd Chute shooting
Joseph A. Torres charged with murder in shooting death of Malcom Woodhouse-Alexander

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office confirmed details relayed to Sunken Press over the weekend in a Facebook post, announcing charges against Joseph A. Torres II in the shooting death of Malcolm Woodhouse-Alexander in the parking lot of 3rd Chute II in unincorporated Alton at 2204 Fosterburg Road.
Torres was accused of shooting Woodhouse-Alexander in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Again, confirming details relayed to us yesterday afternoon, the post alleges Torres and Woodhouse-Alexander knew each other and were involved in an ongoing argument, which became physical at multiple instances throughout the night, which was Torres’ 24th birthday. Torres is then alleged to have escalated the conflict by firing a gun into the air in the parking lot around 12:15 a.m. Sunday before returning at 1 a.m.
Following that return, the altercation in which Woodhouse-Alexander was killed began.
We want folks to remember everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and that’s only if you believe in the infallibility of our criminal justice system. Our hearts go out to both of these families. Sources at the scene told Sunken Press several members of Woodhouse-Alexander’s family were on scene for his murder. We hope they get the mutual aid, comfort, care, and mental wellness that was stolen from them.
We will continue to follow this situation as well as other instances of gun violence in our community so we can bring forward comfort and solutions for our area. Please join us in not falling into despair, but instead bringing hope to our community. A better world is still possible.
